Encouragement From the Flock

A few weeks ago, I was hesitant about going into my son's room to kiss him good night because I was afraid the dust bunnies under his bed would nip my ankles, or that I would have Legos sticking between my toes.  I found it amazing, the "unique" places around his room he could strategically place his socks and pants, even though there was a laundry basket 3 inches away.  Toys that we once thought he "just had to have," cluttered up his room and were now a source of stress in our home because of their not being used and just taking up lots of "space."  Just seems that my idea of clean and organized didn't quite match his.  It was time for a drastic move...

We have had an eye opening revelation!  Five weeks have passed and he has not touched any of the boxes.  There has been less stress in our home, and his room remains clean, (except for the pants still hanging from the ceiling and the socks on the floor 3 inches away from the laundry basket).

With the holidays coming, God had found a humorous way to speak to me loud and clear through my son and his cluttered room!  I think its may be time for a personal inventory.  Do I have "treasures" stored up here on earth that I thought I could never live without?  How can I be a living testimony of Mathew 6:19?  "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where you treasure is, there your heart is also.

Yes, I struggle with storing up to many earthly treasures, but do I also store up all the treasured activities I could do, just for Christmas season?  Taking time to visit the elderly? Baking special meals for friends?  Decorating my home and keeping it nice for company?  Shopping for a special gift to surprise a loved one?  Making a craft to give?  Spending special time with family?  Sending a card to a friend I have not seen in a year?  Donating time to a charity?  Sharing what the Lord has bestowed on me with somebody in need?

My goal this coming year , is not to store up these activities which tend to cause stress, while trying to jam them all into one month of the year.  I will try to spread them out throughout the other 11 months and reduce my stress altogether, and share the treasured miracle and joy of Christmas all year.

Have a Blessed Christmas Season,
ALL Year Round!

Your Sister in Christ,
