Clean the house,
go to work, do the dishes, do the laundry, cook dinner, take care of the
kids, then on top of that, make your home a haven of rest and comfort for your
husband and family. It seems like everything that I've been reading
and listening to the last several months points to making my house a place
rest and comfort. So in turn, I have been feeling quite overwhelmed;
I had no idea where to start in life's busy schedule to accomplish this.
I went to God in prayer for direction
and peace. To make my home a happy place, my first thought was,
"how can I make Mike happy?" In the last year, our church
has had two marriage seminars which caused Mike and I to grow together in
Christ and in our marriage. One of the topics was on finding each others love
language. Whether it be words of affirmation, gifts, acts of
service, quality time or physical touch. Mike's love language is
words of affirmation, so I have been trying to encourage him daily.
This has helped communication between us (which we know is so very
important) and has caused us to grow closer.
As a result of the first marriage
seminar, we have been going to a couples Bible study. I wish
we would have done this a long time ago, because it has helped us to learn
to pray and study the Bible together. I encourage each of you to
have devotions together, Bible studies or find something that works as a
couple. You will find much joy and feel closer together by
having your marriage standing on the Word of God.
So now, I am learning how to show
love toward my husband and how to grow in our marriage, by getting into
the Word. What about the endless piles of laundry and the never
ending question of "what's for dinner?" Well,
working with Cubbies on Wednesday nights has given me some answers.
" Hold fast to Him ... serve Him with all your heart and all your
soul," Joshua 22:5. Jesus was a servant to all and served with
a happy heart. What a challenge! When it seems overwhelming, and impossible,
I know I can "Hold Fast" to Jesus and He will help me to do my
best, making my home a haven of rest and comfort.
Blessings,
