"Sweet Peas of Shepherding"

Hello Sisters,

Wow, it's hard to believe the retreat has been here and gone already. It's a wonderful time of fellowship. As I reflect back on the retreat I have to mention first how awesome it is to gather together with each other as Sisters -In -Christ. To come together to fellowship, to grow, to glean, to encourage, to be lifted up, to listen, to pray, and most of all to be united together in the unity of Christ. It was so evident that the Holy Spirit was present and working in and through each of us.

I was so blessed by attending Nelda's workshop "Shepherding Your Children."  Nelda shared a child is much like a seed.  One of the most necessities to plant into our children's life is the word of God, scripture. She referred to II Peter 3:18: how we should desire and want our children to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  II Timothy 1:5: how the sincere faith first lived in Timothy's grandmother Lois and in his mother Eunice and now lives in Timothy.  What does that mean moms?  Do we wait for our husbands to teach our children?  Do we do it but complain and grumble because our husbands are not doing it?  Or are we obedient and faithful in making sure its being taught with the right attitude?  Titus 2:4:  how we are obligated to love our children and, as older women were to be training younger women to love their husbands and children.

Nelda then walked us through Psalm 23 with these 12 Sweet "P's"

1. Possession- Home is the child's blanket.  Were to encourage our children.

2. Provision- Don't make children the household slave.  Provide their needs so they can be children.

3. Peace- Home should be free from strife.  Children should NOT suffer verbal or physical abuse.  Practice quietness, turn the TV off.  Children model what you are.

4. Pardon- Give a lot of grace not law. Don't nag.

5. Pathway- Plant the word into your children. Sometimes we need to apply tough love.

6. Protection- Devil has a lot of devices to snag your children. BE ALERT!

7. Patience- Spend time with your children to find out what's important to them.

8. Perfection- Must apply discipline (Hebrews 12:5, Proverbs 13:24)

9. Preservation- Teach them the reproofs of life (Proverbs 1:8-9, 2:1-5,3:1-2, 4:1-5,20,5:1-2).  Enforce what dad says when he goes to work.

10. Position-  You are the authority and make sure the child knows that.

11. Promise- Love them genuinely (1 Corinthians 13).

12. Prospect- Pray for their salvation.

Love In Christ ,

Penny Carda
