Take Time To Be Holy

Hello Ladies!

Recently I read the words to this hymn and once again was challenged but also encouraged.  The author certainly had a depth of knowledge into an intimate relationship with our Lord Didn’t he?

As I thought about these words, I was reminded that in 1 Peter 1:15 & 16 we are commanded to “be holy” in all we do.  Does that seem like an impossible command?  To me it does.  I know myself and the selfishness, pride, wrong thoughts and attitudes, etc. etc. that come out so often.  But just when we feel like saying “I can’t do this, Lord - its too much for me, our wonderful heavenly Father shows us that what He asks us to do - HE will also equip and supply what is needed to accomplish it.

Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His Word.
Make friends of God's children
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing
His blessing to seek.

  Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Much time spend in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus,
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.

Therefore, I shouldn’t have been a bit surprised that He led me to 2 Peter 1:3 - on the very day He was challenging me concerning holiness.  “His (God’s) divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.”  Vs. 4 - “Through these He has given us His very great (magnificent) and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (NIV)

God reminded me that there is no way we can live a holy life apart from the power of God working in and through us.  He has lovingly given us His Word to instruct us how to live for Him and He has given us the Holy Spirit to carry it out as we yield ourselves to Him.  My heart has been stirred to seek this as we enter this special Easter season.

I read a question the other day that asked us to stop and think about what we want to see happen in our relationship to the Lord  and what steps do we need to commit ourselves to in order  for it to happen.  Quite a lot to think about!  What do I need to commit to in order to make sure that I grow in my love for the Lord?

Take time to be holy,
Let Him be thy guide,
And run not before Him
Whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow
Still follow thy Lord,
And, looking to Jesus,
Still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy,
Be calm in thy soul.
Each thought and each motive
Beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit
To fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted
For service above.

We are such a privileged people to belong to a Savior Who was willing to die for us and Who provides “everything we need for life and godliness”- add to that the joy, peace, and blessings He gives when we obey -

 Aren’t you glad you bear the name “Christian?”

I am so thankful that we ladies of Bible Fellowship Church can grow together in holiness.  May God richly bless each of you and may we encourage each other as we walk with the Lord together.

Joyfully serving the Lord with you,

Elvira
